The Beast From Below-Jay Disbrow-1954

Jay Disbrow was the first Golden Age artist I ever met. He died last week after living long enough to be rediscovered and have a hardback collection of his horror stories from Yoe Books. R.I.P.

Sorry to hear of Disbrow's passing. He had a unique style which was well-suited for horror comics (not quite as appropriate for his romance work). Curiously, it looks like the cover of Yoe's Disbrow book is by L.B.Cole (although perhaps it was Cole's reworking of Disbrow art--I don't have the book so I don't know if this is explained or not).

RIP, Jayson... his style and Cole's were similar. In a CBG article, he expressed his admiration for Alex Raymond and I see some of that in Disbrow's work. I recall his Flash Gordon pastiche, "Flames of Gyro."
